SINCE 2016

The Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation is recognized by the Swiss Federal Department of Home Affairs as a nonprofit foundation of public utility, under Swiss law (Civil Code, Art. 80 ff). It has been placed under the surveillance of the Federal Supervisory Authority for Foundations, to which THF reports on a yearly basis.

Leadership

THF is governed by a Board of Trustees, while the day-to-day operations and management are under the responsibility of THF office.

The role of the board is, among other things, to define the foundation’s general strategy, liaise with entities of sport, UNHCR and partners to identify projects opportunities, ensuring quality and safety guidelines application in the set up of programs involving operational tasks.

Program funding decisions follow a transparent and democratic process. Donations and donors’ integrity are assessed according to THF’s due diligence procedures.

Our Commitment

As Sport for Refugees Coalition (SfRC) members and contributors to the Global Compact on Refugees, World Taekwondo (WT) and Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) are commited to the Joint Pledge on Sport 2024-2027, having significantly contributed since 2016 to improve the quality of life of more than 13,000 displaced people around the world, through the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation’s action.

WT/THF commit to the vision that our action will continue reaching more displaced people, giving them the opportunity to raise their quality of life, mainly targeting children and young people in refugee camps worldwide, using taekwondo and related educational activities as tools for empowerment and education on world peace, sustainability and Olympic values;

WT/THF commit in addressing new sports programs together with International Sports Federations and NGO’s to enlarge the offer of sports activities available in refugee camps, promoting activities jointly with our partners and cities which have signed MoU’s;

WT/THF commit to sustain elite athlete in their chase of the Olympic dreams together with ORF and through the ongoing WT Solidarity Refugee Athletes Program;

WT/THF commit to advocate as ambassador among International Sports Federations, sharing with IF’s its vision and knowledge on how to set up sports humanitarian programs in refugee camps and cities, promoting multi-sports infrastructures in refugee camps, where 30% of the worldwide population of refugees are living in poor physical and mental health.
