THF Hope and Dreams
Sports Festival

A unique humanitarian sport event that helps strengthen the THF program, bringing joy, hope and dreams to the youth of Azraq and Za’atari Refugee Camps.

Since 2022, World Taekwondo and Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation are organizing a two days humanitarian sport festival with the aim to gather refugee youth from Azraq and Za’atari refugee camps, delivering joy, hope and dreams through sport demonstrations and competitions, celebrating sport and Olympic values. The 2024 edition, saw the participation of 600 youth and 4 Sports Federations joining hands.

The festival, now rebranded Hope and Dreams Sports Festival, is taking place in both Azraq and Za’atari Refugee Camps on the first day, showcasing sports like Taekwondo, Baseball5, Badminton and Basketball in 2024, hoping for more sports to be added, while the second day, in Amman, is dedicated to cadets and juniors championships, where the youth can compete in real conditions and being awarded during a festive ceremony, honored by the presence of Jordan officials and International Sport Federations representatives.

The Hope and Dreams Sports Festival objective is to celebrate the Olympic values – friendship, respect and excellence – promoting peace through sport, as well as hope and dreams to refugees, especially the youth, giving them the opportunity to gather around sports and compete outside their camp; and subsequently to align with the UN Sustainability Development Goals and Olympic Agendas, as well as WT Sustainability Strategy by organizing the Hope and Dreams Sports Festival with the expanded sport events”.

The THF Hope & Dreams Taekwondo Championships aim to offer refugee athletes the chance to compete outside their camps. This THF initiative also contributes to enhancing the humanitarian concept of sport and its role in refining the talents of these young people, empowering them in their communities and investing their energies for the better. This competition is also a way to introduce the young participants to the reality of a championship and its environment, encouraging them to train hard all the year.
