Elbeyli
Refugee Camp

THF program in Turkey started in 2027, in the refugee camp of Kilis. As Kilis Camp closed in 2020, THF moves its program to the refugee camp of Elbeyli. Operated by the Turkish Taekwondo Federation, the aim of the program is to use Taekwondo as a physical education purpose.

A mass-population educational program

Camp

Located 10km from the Syrian border, Elbeyli Refugee Camp opened in 2013. It was built to accommodate displaced families fleeing the Syrian civil war, which began in 2011. Today, the camp’s population is around 8,000.

Promoting well-being, discipline and peace

Program

The program run by the Turkish Taekwondo Federation is addressing weekly 1,000 young participants (450 boys, 550 girls) as a compulsory sport activity, being part of the education curriculum. Rotative day’s sessions of 45 minutes from Monday to Friday, take place under the guidance of 2 instructors. Taekwondo is beneficial for improving behavior, self-discipline and peace.
