Refugee Camp

THF program in the refugee camp of Kiziba, operated by the Rwanda Taekwondo Federation, has been initiated in 2017 with the aim to deliver physical and mental health, promoting peace through Taekwondo.

An holistic program gathering communities

Camp

Kiziba is the eldest refugee camp in Rwanda. He was established in 1996 after an influx of refugees from DRC at the start of civil war in DR Congo. Its population reached over 17’000 refugees.

Promoting well-being, social inclusion and peace

Program

The program run by the Rwanda Taekwondo Federation is addressing weekly 114 young participants, mostly boys (86), and various colored belts and beginners. Participants are training Kyorugi technics in different groups (evening sessions of 45 min) 3 days a week, and a combined session of 2-3 hours on Sunday. A local coach is delivering an holistic and integrated health and well-being program, using Taekwondo to engage and educate, motivating positive behavior change.
