Tijuana & Saltillo
Launched in October 2022, THF program in Mexico is based on a partnership between THF and THF PanAmerica, represented by (PATU) the Pan American Taekwondo Union. Catered to attend migrants hosted in reception centers in Tijuana and Saltillo, Taekwondo is used as a tool for well-being and self-esteem.

Shelters
The “Casa del Migrante” in Tijuana and Saltillo, are temporary safe hosting places for migrants coming from Haiti, Africa and Central America, defending their rights in a context of persecution and violence, providing also humanitarian supports such as legal advice regarding immigration procedures and deportation.
Promoting Taekwondo as a self-esteem tool
Program
The Taekwondo sessions run by THF PanAmerica in Tijuana and Saltillo are addressing weekly 10-20 participants, from all ages, and hosted at Casa del Migrante. The participants are educated to Taekwondo sport two times a week. For each location, a Taekwondo coach is in charge of running small groups sessions lasting from 1 to 1.5 hrs. The practice of Taekwondo exercises is beneficial, reducing the level of stress, boosting the self-esteem.
KEY FACTS
- 20-40 participants per week (from all ages
- 2x 2 sessions per week of 1 hr. – 1,5 hrs. based on taekwondo exercise
- Partnership with 2 reception centers for migrants (Tijuana and Saltillo)
