JORDAN PROJECT
Azraq
Refugee Camp

THF Jordan program in the refugee camp of Azraq is running since 2016 and is operated by THF. Significant results have been achieved through a professional teaching approach and the Humanitarian Center, inaugurated in 2018, where children can practice various sports safely.

A successful model to be replicated

Camp

Opened in April 2014, the Azraq Refugee Camp welcomes people who fled the civil war in Syria. Set up by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), in collaboration with the Jordanian government, its population consists of over 35,000 refugees.

Promoting well-being, social inclusion and personal development

Program

The flagship’s program of THF is addressing 140 young Syrian young boys and girls, aged from 8 to 18, counting various colored belts, blacks and beginners. Participants are training Kyorugi technics in different groups (morning and afternoon sessions from 1h15 to 2 hrs.) across 4 days, developing their physical and mental capacities, as well as soft skills and values. A local Taekwondo coach and 1 trainer are in charge of running the activities. The most talented athletes are integrated to the THF Jordan Refugee Team, participating in local competitions, shining gold, silver and bronze, up to continental competitions, world championships and Olympics.

Since 2022, World Taekwondo and THF are organizing a two days humanitarian sport festival “Hope and Dreams Sports Festival”, aimed at gathering refugee youth from Azraq and Za’atari refugee camps, delivering joy, hope and dreams through sport demonstrations and competitions, celebrating sport and Olympic values.
