THE REASON WHY

Our world
Our responsibility

As fellow
members of the
human family,
we face a crisis.

Dr Chungwon Choue

Founder & Chairman of
Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation

Dear friends,

Unfortunately, the humanitarian crisis is not abating; on
the contrary, it has increased further with the effects of
the war in Ukraine, reaching in 2024 the sad record of 120
million people forced to leave their homes due to conflict,
violence, human rights violations and persecution.

It is the duty of our leaders and all people to act to stem
this crisis and help these people in every way possible. In
this context, taekwondo is a tool that helps to pacify,
rebuild, integrate, forge links and develop the bodies and
minds of those living in refugee camps or in reception
centers for asylum seekers.

Since its creation in April 2016 in Lausanne, Switzerland,
the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) come to
the aid of more than 13,000 young refugees on four
continents. In 2022, THF’s mission has extended to South
America, thanks to the agreement signed between THF
and THF PanAmerica.

Through our THF academies focusing on taekwondo and
related educational activities, THF offers displaced
young people not only the opportunity to belong to the
World Taekwondo family but also to build themselves
around values, improving their quality of life and
acquiring the skills to become future global citizens.

Please help us to generate positive actions!

01

Our mission

We help refugees worldwide, especially
young boys and girls, by using taekwondo
and related educational activities as tools
for empowerment and education on world
peace, sustainability and Olympic values.

HOW WE DO IT

The Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation
empowers refugees through the practice of
taekwondo and supports them with the
equipment, guaranteeing the practice of
the sport in a safe environment conducive
for teaching and transmitting the positive
values of Olympism and civic principles

As a secondary mission, THF helps World Taekwondo Federation to carry out its responsibility as an international federation. It offers World Taekwondo members and clubs the opportunity to do good by donating to or volunteering for THF programs.

THF improves
quality of life in
refugee camps.

Taekwondo
response

Many of the refugees arriving in the camps are in poor physical and mental health.

HOW TAEKWONDO HELPS

Regular taekwondo training sessions help to improve the physical condition of the refugees while acting on the mental side, impacting their attitude and self-esteem.

Through taekwondo, we transmit a global philosophy inculcating universal values of discipline, respect, tolerance, team spirit and the art of transcendence.

Taekwondo practice is not only improving the quality of life of the refugees but also enhances their prospects, with the aim to turn them good global citizens.
