ROME (May 30, 2018) – The Municipality of Rome and the Italian Taekwondo Federation (FITA) have decided to join forces with THF to work together on engaging refugees and vulnerable populations in the local community through taekwondo activities. The City of Rome was also attributed the special role of ‘THF Ambassador City’, following in the footsteps of Paris in 2017, and Burnaby in 2016.
At the occasion of the World Taekwondo Grand Prix 2018 organised in Rome from June 1-3, 2018 a Memorandum of Understanding was co-signed on May 30, 2018 by Mr. Daniele Frongia, Council for Sport and Youth Policies for Roma Capitale, Mr. Angelo Cito, President of the Italian Taekwondo Federation, and Dr. Chungwon Choue, World Taekwondo President and Chairman of the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation.

In October 2016, FITA and World Taekwondo had already organised a taekwondo demonstration followed by an initiation class for refugees living in an urban refugee center of the Italian Red Cross in Rome.
This Memorandum of Understanding will serve as a stepping stone for the two organisations and the City of Rome to work together towards their shared goals and mission of empowering vulnerable populations through opportunitites and access to the sport of taekwondo, in the local community of Rome.
