The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) was the initator of THF. Although independent from one another, the two organisations signed a Cooperation Agreement in May 2016, committing to collaborate on promoting taekwondo and encouraging personal growth and discipline among refugees and displaced persons at refugee camps and natural disaster-hit areas around the world.
To fulfill this Agreement, the WTF created the World Taekwondo Cares Program as part of its 2016 Development Program.
The WTF Cares Program is intended to help promote taekwondo in its Member National Associations (MNAs). The WTF takes into consideration the target of each projects it develops with priority given to ‘grassroots’ sport development, including social minorities or refugees, rather than ‘elite’ sport development.
THF and the WTF Cares Program are working hand in hand to establish Taekwondo Academies in Jordan and Nepal, on which future academies and projects will be developed in countries such as Rwanda, Ghana, and Colombia.
